13 Eredivisie Stars Who Could Follow Hakim Ziyech to the Premier League

For quite some time now, the Eredivisie has been a breeding ground for Europe's elite.

Ajax's sensational Champions League run last season confirmed as much, while Erik ten Hag's side has already been decimated by their own success. The likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong made their respective move to heavyweights Juventus and Barcleona, and now Hakim Ziyech has secured his big-money move to Chelsea this summer.

With that in mind, let's take a look at who could follow in Ziyech's footsteps from the Netherlands to England, and grace the Premier League next season.

Donny van de Beek (Ajax)

Donny Van De Beek

While many assumed that Van De Beek would follow in the footsteps of De Jong and De Ligt last summer, the midfielder decided to stick around in Amsterdam. However, undoubtedly, there will be huge interest in the 22-year-old in the upcoming transfer window, with Real Madrid touted with a potential approach.

But Van De Beek could function just as well in the Premier League, having continued his stellar form this season. The Dutchman has scored ten goals and registered five assists for Ajax in the Champions League and Eredivisie this season, and is continuing to excel in a frighteningly good young team.

One caveat: he won't come cheap.

Myron Boadu (AZ Alkmaar)

Dutch Eredivisie"AZ Alkmaar v RKC Waalwijk"

Having pretty much exploded out of nowhere, Boadu has established himself as one of the Netherlands' greatest current goalscorers at just 19 years of age.

Alkmaar's number nine has netted 13 goals and laid on another six for his teammates this season in the league, while also impressing for AZ in the Europa League - netting four and assisting two in just five games.

The young forward's goals have helped Alkmaar fight for the title, with the Eredivisie underdogs sat just three points behind Ajax, and seven clear of Feyenoord in third.

Andre Onana (Ajax)

Onana's rise to stardom has been a fairly steady one, having been sold to Ajax from Barcelona's youth academy back in 2015. The Cameroon international is just 23 and is now widely considered as one of the best shot-stoppers Europe has to offer - exemplified by the form he exhibited in last year's Champions League.

The goalkeeper could directly follow in Ziyech's footsteps, with Chelsea tipped to make a move for Onana this summer as they look for a replacement for Kepa.

Cyriel Dessers (Heracles)

Cyriel Dessers

Perhaps not the Eredivisie's most glamorous choice, Dessers could provide a number of current Premier League teams with a cutting edge. Despite playing for ninth-placed Heracles, the 25-year-old striker is the league's top scorer with 14 goals in 23 starts, and could offer great value for money in the summer.

David Neres (Ajax)

David Neres

Another one of those linked away from Ajax last summer was Neres. The tricky Brazilian winger had gained a following after his impressive performances on Europe's grandest stage, but has played less of a part for the Dutch table-toppers this term so far.

The 22-year-old has started just seven league games, but has still managed to find the back of the net six times, as well as creating one assist and four big chances.

Steven Berghuis (Feyenoord)

Steven Berghuis

We wouldn't blame you for having forgotten that Berghuis has actually played in the English top flight before. After a fairly unsuccessful and brief spell at Watford, the 28-year-old returned to his homeland to re-find his form.

And it sure as hell worked, with Berghuis having scored 11 league goals this term, as well as laying on another six for his teammates. Maybe the Dutch winger would jump at the opportunity to redeem himself in the Premier League.

Donyell Malen (PSV)

Donyell Malen

Unfortunately, Malen's season has been blighted by a serious knee injury, for which he has to undergo surgery. It's unknown when the 21-year-old will return to action, but he has already made one hell of an impact this season for PSV.

The young centre-forward has scored 17 goals and registered nine assists in 25 appearances so far, and has already been capped four times for the Dutch national team. The youngster actually used to play for Arsenal's Under-23's...another big mistake from the Gunners letting this talent go.

Sergino Dest (Ajax)

Sergino Dest

Despite the fact that Dest is likely to join Bayern Munich this summer, the German giants could face stiff competition for the 19-year-old.

The right-back has registered six assists and two goals for Ajax this season, and has already made three appearances for the United States. The adaptable and pacy youngster is forging a glowing reputation in the Netherlands, and will likely be snapped up this summer.

Oussama Idrissi (AZ Alkmaar)

Dutch Toto KNVB Cup"AZ Alkmaar v NAC Breda"

Similarly to Ziyech, Idrissi is another Moroccan thriving on the flank in the Eredivisie. The 23-year-old has been one of the standout performers this season and will likely attract attention from some of the clubs outside the Premier League's 'big boys'.

The left-winger has netted an astonishing 12 goals in the Dutch top flight this campaign so far, and would certainly be a more affordable option than the likes of Ziyech or Neres from Ajax.

Denzel Dumfries (PSV)

Denzel Dumfries

The 23-year-old has to be one of the most exciting full-backs in world football at the moment, with his potential growing with every passing game. The right-back has scored seven goals from the back this term, and has helped PSV become the fourth-best defence in the division.

Dumfries has also made nine appearances for the Dutch national side and is slowly but surely becoming the Netherlands' first-choice right-back.

Calvin Stengs (AZ Alkmaar)

Dutch Eredivisie"AZ Alkmaar v RKC Waalwijk"

Unfortunately for Alkmaar, their success is likely to lead to the complete destruction of their first team.

Stengs is another top-quality performer for AZ, having scored ten goals and registered 11 assists this season in all competitions. The winger is versatile, and can play with similar proficiency from attacking midfield - something that has led to the Dutchman creating the third most big chances of any player this season, only behind Ziyech and former Southampton midfielder Dusan Tadic.

Lisandro Martinez (Ajax)

Lisandro Martinez

Despite having only joined Ajax last summer, Martinez has quickly established himself as one of the Eredivisie's hottest prospects. The centre-back can feature anywhere across the backline, as well as in defensive-midfield, and is only 22.

The Argentinian defender is part of the second-best defence in the Dutch top tier, and has already featured 34 times for Ajax this term.

Quincy Promes (Ajax)

Quincy Promes

Yes, Ajax are pretty good, aren't they?

Quincy Promes not only boasts one of the best names in the Eredivisie, he has also taken the league by storm since returning to the Netherlands after a disappointing spell with Sevilla. The winger has scored 15 goals and registered five assists this season, and has particularly sparkled in the Champions League.
