Player Ratings: Spurs (a)

Last updated : 16 January 2005 By Liam Corbett

Petr Cech - One smart stop from Defoe, not a lot else to do. 7

Glen Johnson - A couple of clumsy moments but was great most of the time. Composed, smart, good in the air and went forward at the right tmes without leaving us exposed. 8

John Terry - Great as always. Faultless. Better get some more vaseline for Frankie's lips after his brace! 8

William Gallas - Had Defoe in his pocket, matched him for speed and made one exceptional first half block. 8

Paulo Ferreira - My man of the match. Went forward well and put in two or three clever crosses with his weaker left foot. Covered well, good in the air and looked more comfortable at left back than the naturally left sided Bridge. 9

Claude Makelele - Had a dodgy first 30 minutes but settled down and passed and moved well. Got meaninglessly booked and was lucky not to walk for a couple of dodgy challenges and tantrums. 7

Frank Lampard - Showed a lot of bottle to take the first penalty since he missed against West Ham. Great clean strike for the second and showed a superb range of passing all day, in front of Eriksson too. 9

Alexey Smertin - Went over for the penalty, too easily maybe? Who cares, it WAS a penalty as it was given! Was his usual energetic self if not as productive as Mourinho would've liked. More of a pest to Spurs than anything else. 6

Arjen Robben - Batman sat it out as Robben took centre stage. Took pressure off the defence with great runs and his ability to draw tackles in and win free kicks. Could've got two penalties if he was less theatrical maybe. 7

Damien Duff - How he kept the ball in for the penalty god only knows! Let fire with two or three top strikes and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself. 8

Didier Drogba - Ran tirelessly and was a good outlet but his touch was awful. You expect more for that sort of money. 6

Subs:

Eidur Gudjohnsen - Great assist for second goal and unlucky not to score from that same angle himself. 8

Joe Cole - Was a prefect outlet when we needed to relieve pressure late on. 7

Jiri Jarosik - Nobody knew his name so a chant of 'New bloke from Russia' started! Added airial assistance to Terry at the back and has a nice touch for a big guy. 7
