Player Ratings: Man Yoo (h) Carling Cup

Last updated : 12 January 2005 By Liam Corbett

Carlo Cudicini – Made a good reflex save from Rooney’s header but wasn’t troubled. 7

Paulo Ferreira – Showed his class in a few awkward situations and was good attacking from the right, putting in several tempting crosses. 7

John Terry – Immense as ever. 8

Gallas – Solid showing and deserves to keep his place next to JT. 8

Wayne Bridge – Did himself no favours with lots of mis-placed passes and lacked the ability to do simple things. Could be on his way out of the Bridge or warming the bench soon, as Jose will look for a quality left back. 5

Claude Makelele – Did well apart from one move where we had a great counter attacking chance that he failed to take advantage of. Nice neat passing and played well. 7

Frank Lampard – Overall gameplay was good but his set piece delivery was shocking. One of our best forms of goals this season was wasted on every occasion. Unlucky after some great skill to see his strike cleared from the line by Heinze. 7

Tiago – Nice through ball for Ferreira in first half and some nice touches, but was also clumsy on occasions. Not cemented this midfield place and when Parker returns and Cole becomes accustomed to it, he may find a spell on the bench. Been given more than a fair chance. Subbed for Kez. 6

Joe Cole – Great first half, but faded in second. Early volleyed chance he failed to connect with. Most of his touches and flicks came off and his work was tireless. Seems to be taking what Jose and the staff said to him and putting it into practise. 8

Damien Duff – Good showing but not his usual self. Didn’t threaten like he can but one of our better players still. 7

Eidur Gudjohnsen – Had a goal dis-allowed but apart from that and a couple of flashes, showed nothing. Subbed for Drogba at half time. 6

Subs:

Kezman – Showed nothing extra in the last half hour. 6

Drogba – Better than Gudjohnsen but still not sure of his place against Spurs. 6

Jarosik – Had a shot cleared from the line but didn’t have long enough to impress. 6
