Schalke 0 Chelsea 3

Fernando Torres projected Chelsea to the top of Group E as the Blues blew away the Germans 3-0 tonight.
The other goal was scored late on by Eden Hazard.

Torres nodded home at the far post from a corner on the fourth minute as the Londoners took control of the opening exchanges.

But Schalke, who were top of the group before kick- off imposed themselves with Petr Cech called upon to action on several occasions and defender Cesar Azpilicueta throwing himself in front of a clear shot on goal.

Torres hit the crossbar from a Frank Lampard free kick in the second half As Chelsea sought to add to their lead from a set piece.

But it was Spain's frontman Torres who is struggling to find any league form who extended the away side's lead in the 68th minute.

A brilliant breakaway from Hazard saw the Belgium midfielder race clear from his own half into the opposition territory. He slid the ball to Oscar who side-passed to Torres, who had the easiest of chances to round the goalkeeper and slot calmly home.
Hazard then finished off the home side when he collected a long pass from Ramires and then cooly clipped the ball past the prone and cruelly exposed goalkeeper.

A 1-1 draw between Steaua Bucharest and Basle mean Chelsea top the group.
