PSG 3 Chelsea 1

Chelsea were humbled for the third time in five matches here in Paris tonight as they went down 3-1 to PSG in the first leg at the Champions League quarter-final stage.

The west Londoners are now in serious danger of elimination from the tournament.

Peter Cech was at fault deep into added time when substitute Javier Pastore,s left footed shot from the right side of the box squeezed past the goalkeeper and his near post.

At 2-1 it could have been seen as a satisfactory result, but not ideal.

But now the Blues will have to win at least by 2-0 in the return leg at Stamford bridge next Tuesday.

The Blues got off to the worst possible start, going behind after just three minutes when

Ezequiel Lavezzi's sizzling left footed shot from the centre of the box smashed into the top left corner of Cech's net.

But the Blues who had lost their past two league games 1-0 at Aston Villa and again by the same score at Crystal Palace on Saturday, recovered their composure and bossed the remaining 42 minutes of the half.

They were rewarded for their efforts by an equaliser from the penalty spot by Belgium midfielder Eden Hazard on 27 minutes.

Oscar was bundled over by Tiago Silva and up popped Hazard with a smart right-footed shot to the bottom left corner of Sirigu's net.

But the French moneybags side who had won nine straight matches at their Parc des Princes ground regained the lead the 61st minutes through an own goal from the hapless David Luiz.

In truth Chelsea never really looked like getting back into the game, and although they restricted PSG to only three shots on goal, they did score each time.
Jose Mourinho will be desperate to see the return of Samuel Eto'o for next week's match.

He clearly does not fancy Fernando Torres to produce the goods and consequently left the Spain forward on the bench, opting for the false no9 of Andre Schurrle to start the game.

It worked at Old Trafford at the beginning of the season, stifling Manchester United in a 0-0 but will, on reflection look like a misjudgement by Mourinho.
