Fulham 0 Chelsea 1

Despite the scoreline, Chelsea did appear to have a slight edge over Fulham and, had it not been for some poor finishing by Gudjohnsen, the scoreline could have been two or three-nil. The match started quietly and was very stop start in the early stages. There was a long stoppage after just 3 minutes as Le Saux went down injured with nobody near him. That spelt the end of his semi final as Albert Ferrer came on in his place. It took until 12 minutes until we were treated to some goal mouth action. A deep corner from Petit had Fulham struggling to get the ball clear and John Terry showed wonderful composure to volley the ball towards the top corner. Unfortunately, Edwin Van Der Sar was equal to it and palmed the ball wide. Chelsea would continue to look threatening but Fulham always looked in the match and had a wonderful opportunity to go ahead in the 27th minute. Legwinski powered through Chelsea's midfield before playing a great one-two with Steve Marlet. Desailly tried to get back but Legwinski smashed the ball towards goal only for Carlo Cudicini to tip the ball wide. Fulham failed to build on that chance and it was Chelsea who would continue to look the better side. They almost made their pressure count when Mario Stanic turned three men but, instead of laying the ball to the unmarked Frank Lampard, the Croat went for glory but Van Der Sar managed to knock the ball behind with his legs. But the Dutchman's great save was to no avail as, from the resulting corner, John Terry managed to bundle the ball home. It was a scrappy goal but just about deserved by Chelsea. The final five minutes of the half produced very few incidents and the players get a well earned rest for half time.

The second half started very poorly and neither side could get into any sort of rythm. As the half goes on it becomes clear that Fulham are the more dominant side and Malbranque and Davis both go close from distance. But Chelsea would hit back with a chance of their own. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink slipped the ball through to Gronkjaer. The Dane's cross is superbly controlled by Gudjohnsen to Petit only for the Frenchman to fire wide. Gudjohnsen then produces the best shot of the match as, from an impossible angle, he clips the ball over Van Der Sar only for the ball to hit the post. As the match gets closer to a finish things start to get heated and their is a mass confrontation over a seemingly innocuous incident. Amazingly, no one is booked in the incident but it provided a stoppage in play which allowed Chelsea to regroup. The Blues should have the ended the match but some poor finishing from Eidur Gudjohnsen gave Fulham hope up until the final whistle. Chelsea and their fans were jubilant and, despite not putting in their best performance, would have been happy at the amount of chances that they created.

So it is a London derby for the Cup Final between Chelsea and Arsenal. Predicting a winner at this time will be tough as both sides will be hoping to have players back from injury but it will certainly be an intriguing affair...
