Chelsea 4 Tottenham 0

Not content with stuffing Spurs 4-0 at White Hart Lane, Chelsea repeated the feat at Stamford Bridge. After all of the bad press that the previous game recieved, it was a surprise to see the opening of last night's match being played in such good spirits. Chelsea dominated things early on and Hasselbaink and Gudjohnsen both spurned excellent chances. But it wouldn't be long before the Blues broke the deadlock. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink picked the ball up well outside the area but the lacklustre Dean Richards failed to close him down and Jimmy made no mistake with a curling right footed drive from 25 yards. It was just what Chelsea deserved and the goal came just as Spurs were starting to pick up their game.

Chelsea were clearly the better side in the first half and they had further chances to extend their lead but for a goal line clearance by Ledley King and a poor strike by Gudjohnsen when he found himself in a promising position. Half time came at a good time for Chelsea after Spurs began to look threatening and the only change came when Chris Perry replaced Dean Richards.

The beginning of the second half saw both sides enjoy good spells of possesion but the turning point in the match came on the hour. Taricco lunged in on Graeme Le Saux with an x-rated challenge and was promptly given his marching orders by the ref. Strangely, Taricco was given a standing ovation by the Spurs fans and a pat on the back by assistant manager John Gorman. Why??? He had just cost his side any chance of getting back into the match and is now facing an 8 match ban for his second red card in as many league games. 10 minutes later Spurs would pay the price as Chelsea scored a magnificent second. Mario Melchiot sent Gronkjaer clear down the right flank and his cross was met emphatically by Jimmy's head, leaving Sullivan with no chance.

Chelsea continued to create chances but would have to wait until 10 minutes from time before they added to their tally. Hasselbaink picked up the ball near the by-line, sprinted past two Spurs defenders, before curling a stunning left footed shot past Sullivan's despairing drive. That took his tally for the season to 21 in the Premiership, joining fellow Dutchman Ruud Van Nistelrooy at the top of the scoring charts. Chelsea played out the final ten minutes with some excellent one touch passing and would add a fourth late on. Mayhem in the Tottenham penalty area saw Sullivan save well, Davies clear off the line, then Lampard smacking the ball home. It was the icing on the cake after a truly magnificent result.

Chelsea are now unbeaten in their last 24 league games against Spurs, going back as far as 1990! Homegrown talents John Terry and Jody Morris were not even 10 when Chelsea last lost a league game to Spurs.

So two straight 4-0 wins against Spurs put the ghost of the Worthington Cup past Chelsea. Bring on the next 12 years!!!
