Demba Ba, put Chelsea through to the semi-final of the Champions League by netting a late goal, the second for the Blues as they beat PSG by the necessary two-goal margin in a pulsating night of football at Stamford Bridge.

Trailing 3-1 from the first leg last week, Chelsea needed to win by at least two clear goals.
Very few expected them to overturn that deficit, except perhaps one man Jose Moutinho.
Trusting an unfit Samuel Eto'o ahead of either Ba or Fernando Torres, Mourinho then had the audacity to replace man of the season Eden Hazard early on, when it was felt the Belgium
Midfielder was either not up to the task emotionally or was carrying a slight injury.
Mourinho managed to eke a goal out of his charges in the first half through a smart daisy-cutter by

German Andre Schurrle.
It was not going to be enough on its own.

And when it looked as if the minutes were working against him, he threw the preverbal kitchen sink at the French side, ended up with a triple strike force of Eto'o, Ba and Torres.
It needed Bambi's close-range lunge from a Shurrle drive to hook the ball into the back of the PSG net to send the Chelsea faithful into delirium.

The early exchanges were naturally sent active from both side, but PSG a seemed intent on grabbing a quick opener. Overloading Cesar Azpiliceutea seem be the order of the day from their coach Laurent Blanc.

A quick count attack, featuring Oscar on the left yielded a corner on 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the resultant kick from Frank Lampard came to nothing.
Misplaced passing from David Luiz and Eden Hazard not attacking players suggested that all was not right in the midfield area.

Incredibly after just 15 minutes , Jose Mourinho had seen enough and instructed substitute Andre Schurrle to get warmed up. Off came Eden Hazard, certainly the Belgium midfielder did not seem as on the pace as was needed in such a high octane match and he was the first casualty.

The Blues struggled at this point to gain any foothold in the game as the slick passing movement of the visitors looked to overwhelm the home side.

The Blues almost scored on 28 minutes when a fierce Frank Lampard free-kick, arrowing towards goal took a deflection off
Salvador Sirigu made his first save two minutes later aft a 35-yard effort by David Luiz was easily held.

The Mourinho substitution at first seemly an act of petulance looked like inspiration as the clock ticked over the 32nd minute.

Branislav Ivanovic took a long throw, the ball hit the back of David Luiz in the PSG penalty area and Schurrle was on hand to stroke the ball comfortably home past Sirigu to put the Blues one up.
Three minutes later and Gary Cahill took a wild sweep at the ball in the PSG area after another Lampard free kick was knocked down to the centre-back. It was a half chance to level the tie on aggregate and ahead on away goals rule, but it was fluffed by the England defender.
There was no substitutions from either side at half time as the Blues went in search of the potentially decisive second goal.

On 52 minute a brilliant counter-attack involving Lampar, Eto'o, Oscar and Willian set up Schurrle who blasted the ball goal wards. Unfortunately the effort ricocheted off Sirigu's crossbar.
Unbelievably, from a free- kick a minute later, Oscar rattled the same piece of woodwork with a 25-yard curler.

Petr Cech produced a dine save from a Ezequiel Lavezzi free kick as the away side sort to take advantage of a lull in Chelsea pressure.

That free-kick was given away by Ivanovic, who, already yellow carded from a previous game, received another one for his late challenge on Levezzi and would thus miss the next match should the Blues progress.

A Edinson Carvani header from a Levezzi corner was well wide as PSG moved out of defence, with confidence, sensing they could get their vital away goal.
Mourinho opted to send on Demba Ba but not before a spell of home pressure saw consecutive corners for the Blues.
Ba eventually came on on 66 minutes, replacing Lampard.

The need to score a second goal, meant a reshuffle in the Chelsea midfield, with Oscar taking Lampard's place in the middle of the park and William. Paving out to the left and Luiz the holing player.

Eto'o almost scooped the ball past Sirrigu on 69 minutes as the tempo of the game lessened and the reshaped Blues got to grips with the new formation.
With 18 minutes left on the clock, Blanc introduced Javier Pastore, who scored the third goal in the first leg on Paris. Off came Levezzi.

A sharp break by PSG allowed Maxwell the freedom to slash a left footer across Cech's goal. Thankfully also wide of his left upright.
Again the away side were profligate on 76 minutes a when a hopeful long ball was missed by Cahill, with Cavani bearing down on goal. The striker elected to shoot and his left footer was inches wide Cech's goal.

As the game ebbed down way and the next, Cech was again in action
With just 10 minutes left Mourinho's final substitution saw Oscar taken off and Fernando Torres enter the fray.

Centre-back Marquinhos was brought on with five to go replacing Lucas with the intention of spring up the defence even further.
Sensationally with three minutes left, Shurrle sent in a low drive from the edge of the penalty area, Torres let the ball move on and Ba popped up to hook the ball over Sirigu and into the top of the net to put Chelsea 2-0 up on the night an seconds away from progressing into the semi-final of the Champions League.

Referee Pedro Proenca signalled four minutes of extra time as the Chelsea faithful roared on their side.

One goal from PSG however would put them through.

With the Chelsea dug out shouting and raising their hands to get the crowd even more behind them

With two late corners to deal with and the added pressure of PSG goalkeeper Sirigu to contend with, Cech's final act on a sensational and emotional European night was to punch the ball clear of his goal. The ref blew the whistle and the crowd went wide, Chelsea were through.
