Who Will Be The Best Summer Signing?

Last updated : 14 August 2003 By Rich Godden
Damien Duff (£17million)29.1%
Adrian Mutu (£15.8million)19.9%
Juan Veron (£15million)19.3%
Geremi (£6.9million)14.4%
Joe Cole (£6.6million)9.2%
Glen Johnson (£6million)4.0%
Wayne Bridge (£7million)3.7%
Marcio Ambrosio (free)0.6%

The clear winner is Duffman, with Adrian Mutu and Juan Veron seperated by just 0.6% in second and third. No surprise that they are, and in price order, our most expensive signings to date. And the fact they are all quality players might have a little something to do with it...

Unsurprisingly, Marcio Ambrosio is bottom of the list. But that's no disrespect to him. Who, honestly, thinks that Ambrosio will have a big impact at Chelsea? He's like a lot of goalkeepers in Italy, who play their whole career as the back up goalie. His role in he squad is crucial though, considering Jurgen Macho won't be playing football again until 2004.

Glen Johnson and Wayne Bridge also racked up a low amount of votes, perhaps they wouldn't have done but for the competition they were facing in this poll.

Stuck in the middle are Joe Cole and Geremi- both are exceptional players. Maybe they didn't cost enough to rate higher in the poll??
