The JFH Saga

So, Sarah Winterburn of Football365.com thinks that Chelsea should cash in on Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink due to some comments he made in the Spanish press about wanting to join Barcelona.

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the Spanish press say that Claudio Ranieri was going to be the new Barcelona manager after, supposedly, making some similar comments to Jimmy’s?

Until Jimmy comes out in the English press and says that he wants to join Barcelona, I am going to continue believing that he wants to remain a Chelsea player. Despite being mad about Chelsea FC, I am level headed enough to admit that we are going through a tough time.

And I also agree with Sarah’s comments that Jimmy is better than the club. But he is an ego maniac and I am sure that he would rather be a big fish in a small pool rather than a small fish in a big pool. With the strikers on offer at the Nou Camp, along with the likes of Riquelme and Luis Enrique, Jimmy will just be another face in the crowd.

But at Chelsea he will continue to be adored by fans and, until his time at the club is over, he will be paid an absolute fortune every week. And, as always with Chelsea, there is always a chance of picking up some silverware in the cups as well as the possibility of Champions League qualification.

For those of you aware with past happenings at Barcelona, cast your mind back to 1996/97 when Ronaldo arrived at the Nou Camp. Sure, the fans adored him when he first signed but the moment he started moaning he was subjected to torrents of boos every week and was shipped out at the first possible opportunity. So how is Jimmy Floyd, a player who likes to have a moan, going to cope once the Nou Camp boo boys inevitably turn on him?

And you say that the chance to work in his beloved Spain will be too hard to turn down, but it was only his beloved Spain because he had such a good relationship with his Atletico Madrid manager at the time, a certain Claudio Ranieri!

At the end of the day, I suggest that Chelsea fans should, as I have done, treat this as a bit of speculation. If he tells Ranieri that he wants to leave then the club should just let him go, but until then he will remain a Chelsea player.

And, for the time being, he is going to show how much Chelsea means to him by doing what he does best… scoring goals!
