Rich's Thoughts

As you've probably all heard, Chelsea will play Man United in the Worthington Cup quarter finals. But that is something to look forward to. The players must be focused on doing a job against Everton on Saturday... again!

You see, not only did we beat Everton, we absolutely destroyed them last night. We made a team that is in 4th place in the Premiership look like a team who were 4th from bottom. Was it a fluke though? All will be revealed on Saturday at Goodison Park, although the odds are highly in favour of a Blues win!

However, before last night's game, I came across a website for whom Andy Gray writes a weekly column. This week, the Scottish pundit took the opportunity to jump on the Chelsea bandwagon- like so many other 'neutrals' since we have had a turn around. But he couldn't help but mess up one part of his article...

And, as if he hasn't pissed off enough football fans, he can now add another fan to that list. That fan is me! Here's why...

I quote Mr Gray (from his Football365 coloumn if you hadn't already guessed!), "But the sign that the new Chelsea is here to stay will come when, not if, things start going a little awry. When they lose a couple of games on the trot we will see their true mettle – just as we have seen the true mettle of Arsenal and we will see Liverpool’s in the next few weeks. The real test of a team, and a manager, is when things start going wrong."

A fairly innocent comment I hear you say? Consider this then- Chelsea have already had a bad patch. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't losing 3 games on the trot and failing to win in 4 a bad run? Because that's exactly what happened to Chelsea earlier this season. After drawing with Fulham (0-0) we then lost to West Ham (2-3), Viking Stavaenger (2-4) and Liverpool (0-1). In my books, that is a bad run. And how have Chelsea responded?

A nine game unbeaten run! Winning 7 of these games! Conceding just 3 goals along the way! Keeping 6 clean sheets! Scoring 19 goals! A pretty emphatic reply you could say. However, I'd say it's the form of title contenders...
