Player Ratings: Aston Villa (h)

Petr Cech- With the amount of Premiership goalkeeping gaffes seemingly increasing by the week (and, as a result, helping David Seaman top up his pension with yearly DVD's), it is so refreshing to see someone as consistent as Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal. Didn't have too much to do today, but he dealt with any crosses well and made a couple of top notch saves. Textbook! 8

Paulo Ferreira- Did he spend Christmas with his family or with his surrogate father Mr Mourinho? Who knows, but it appeared as if his mind was still on the Scalextric set he got yesterday when he dozed off several times in the first half. Recovered to put in a steady-as-ever performance, which included a couple of daring runs and, unfortunately, one terrible dive. 7

William Gallas- Lucky not to concede an early penalty after climbing all over Angel, but other than that he had a good game. Made a couple of surging runs forward too (he's been playing left back too much recently) and generally looked at ease alongside the immense JT. 8

John Terry- What an absolute beast of a player, every week he seems to get better and better! Did JT prefer his new BMX that he got yesterday or today's three points? I'll let you decide... 9

Wayne Bridge- Made to look a bit of a mug at times, but he must have been completely knackered having stayed up all night to build his Lord Of The Rings lego set. Joking aside, put in the sort of consistent performance that made him such a hit with the Stamford Bridge faithful last season. 7

Claude Makelele- Top notch, as always. With Maka keeping things ticking, we always stand a chance of winning. 8

Frank Lampard- Often accused of being on the porky side, Frank had clearly eaten too much turkey yesterday. Looked totally off the pace in the first half and it must have been some strong words from Jose that sparked him into life in the second half. 7

Tiago- First Christmas in England, and he was treated to a fantastic Connect Four set by Paulo Ferreira. Must have had great fun with it as he seemed a little off the pace at times, but he remains solid in the middle of the park. And if the team isn't broke, why fix it? 7

Damien Duff- Great goal by a great player! Frightens the life out of defenders and, as long as Robben is getting all of the press (and, consequently, the attention of defenders), Duffer will continue to reap the rewards. Whilst Robbie has gone off the boil slightly in this last month, Duffa just gets better and better. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy either! 9

Arjen Robben- Made a couple of pulsating runs, including one which allowed Duff to open the scoring. But for the most part he was quieter than usual, but he will argue that it is the team that matter- and he's right! 7

Eidur Gudjohnsen- Received a fair bit of stick from the Chelsea faithful for his often uninspiring play during the last few months but if he plays like he did against Villa he'll have no trouble with the crowd. Might have only had one decent chance in the game, but his general play meant that we looked a better side with him up front than Drogba. 8
