Yes, I know that I said a defeat would have been the best result for Chelsea on Saturday, for the benefit of our season as a whole, but I couldn't have even dreamed about how events unfolded at the Valley.

Coming from 2-0 down to win a match, no matter who your opponents are, is an incredible feat and it is even sweeter to do it on the opening day. Cynics will happily point out that it was easy because they only had 10 men, but that only encouraged them to sit back on their lead.

That helped show what this Chelsea side is capable of. One of the biggest problems that the Blues had last year was that we scored too many goals on the counter attack. On too many occasions we lost or drew games because we were unable to break teams down. That is usually the case with smaller teams.

But yesterday, the players proved that they can overcome this problem. Now, the fans will be expecting more from them and they'll certainly be expecting another solid performance against Man United on Friday. Now is the time to prove that we can be consistent but it will all come down to the players' mentality. If they believe that they can be consistent then they have certainly got the talent to do it.

And on the back of yesterday's performance, the fans' expectations are going to be high...
