Andres Villas-Boas felt so pleased after seeing his side stuff Bolton Wanderers 1-5 at the Reebok Stadium yesterday and dedicated the walloping to his technical staff and players.

He said: “We have been looking for this victory and were more prolific in front of goal, “ said the Portuguses.

“We took great satisfaction from the game. Everything paid off for us – unlike at Valencia – we were very efficient here.

“It showed we have great strength of character. Bolton is a difficult place to come to.”
Well we all chuckled with that but he was unmoved.

“I want to dedicate the game to the technical side and players - we have worked for this result,” he said.

“The game filled us with pride – we have tried to do this before and for different reasons we have not managed it.

“We are creating the same amount of chances as before but scored them this time.”

Speaking of his restored midfielder Frank Lampard, Villas-Boas said: “Lampard arrived with perfect timing in the box like he has done all these years.

“It’s not a question of age, [Lampard is 33]  but of confidence. We have enough talent to try to win the Premier League.

“The top sides play each other in their next games so we need to close the points gap when we play  Everton and QPR.

“Lampard can still do it – he has great sensibility. I’m very happy with team the team’s performance. Frank won’t have to change his game, he is physically fit.

“All in the squad defend the team’s objective, and that includes Salomon Kalou, who has started three games as well as Nicolas Anelka.

“There is nothing to say about what they are doing as they are performing well - for Sturridge to perform the team has to perform as well.”
