Fernando Torres is almost certain to miss Sunday's season's opener against Stoke City.

Spanish striker Torres started the international friendly against Italy last night but was taken off after just 15 minutes suffereing from concussion.

Italy won the match 2-1.

It means mis-firing Torres, a £50m January signing from Liverpool will take at least three days off from training as is the mandatory case in concussion incidents.

This throws Andres Villa-Boas plans for the visit to the City Ground up in the air.

Meanwhile Didier Drogba just goes from strength to strength with his 50th international goal for the Ivory Coast in their 4-3 win over Israel .
