Timo Werner set for crunch talks over Chelsea future

Timo Werner's representatives will soon hold talks with Chelsea to determine whether he still has a place under Thomas Tuchel.

A £52m signing from RB Leipzig in 2020, Werner has failed to live up to expectations in England and has found minutes hard to come by this season, with Tuchel restricting him to just six Premier League starts following the summer acquisition of Romelu Lukaku.

As 90min exclusively revealed in September, Werner is open-minded about his Chelsea future and is prepared to consider all his options at the end of the season if he cannot force his way back into Tuchel's plans.

Now, Goal add that Werner's entourage have scheduled a meeting with Chelsea officials in the coming weeks to figure out Tuchel's vision for the 25-year-old next season.

Werner rejected the chance to leave in January as he wanted to try and force his way back into the European champions' starting lineup, but we are now in March and the German is yet to see the regular game time he is looking for.

Alongside frustration at his lack of minutes, Werner is wary of letting his situation at Chelsea impact his chances on the international stage. With the 2022 World Cup just around the corner, Werner wants to ensure he makes it into Hansi Flick's Germany squad.

If Tuchel cannot convince Werner of his role at Stamford Bridge, then the striker could look for a summer exit, with Borussia Dortmund long linked with making a move as part of their plan to cover for the eventual departure of Erling Haaland - a target for Chelsea, among others.

Werner's wages, which sit at close to £250,000 a week, would be a problem for Dortmund and the striker may have to take a pay cut to seal a move away from London if he chooses to go.
