Thomas Tuchel frustrated by Chelsea's 'freak result' against Everton

Thomas Tuchel has described Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Everton in the Premier League on Thursday night as a ‘freak result’, but insists he would be more concerned if his team was playing poorly.

It is the fourth time in the last seven Premier League games that Chelsea have dropped points, allowing Manchester City and Liverpool to get ahead of them and open up a small lead at the top of the table – City are now four points ahead following this week’s results.

Chelsea scored first midway through the second half against Everton at Stamford Bridge, only for Jarrad Branthwaite to cancel that out with an equaliser shortly afterwards.

Chelsea dominated the game and peppered the Everton goal with shots and yet still only came away with one point. It was a similar story in last month’s draw against Burnley.

"It was a freak result for this type of match," Tuchel said, via Sky Sports.

"We were strong enough and I'm not sure right now why we get punished. We see teams concede more chances than we do but we only have a draw,” he added.

Tuchel suggested that a significant list of absentees is a big part of the issue, with no Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner or Kai Havertz involved against Everton.

"I am concerned we have too many players out; six or seven players. I think this in the moment is the problem, one of the key problems. In central midfield, for eight weeks. We had our strikers out and that was the case for four weeks with Timo and Romelu out,” the boss explained.

"I would be more concerned if we were totally out of form, concede the first goal and then struggle to come back. It would be easier to analyse. I don't think it's too easy to analyse our situation."
