Tammy Abraham to undergo Roma medical after agreeing £34m move

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is due in Rome on Sunday for a medical after agreeing a permanent transfer to Roma.

Abraham has struggled for minutes under Thomas Tuchel, who has just completed the £97.5m signing of Romelu Lukaku, so an exit for the academy graduate always seemed on the cards.

Roma quickly voiced their interest after losing Edin Dzeko to Inter, and after a lot of thought about the move, Gianluca Di Marzio notes that Abraham has officially accepted their proposal and has already packed his bags.

The 23-year-old is expected in Italy around 1pm to undergo a medical and finalise the paperwork of a permanent deal which will see Chelsea earn around £34m plus add-ons.

Importantly for Chelsea, Roma have agreed to hand the Blues a buy-back clause which sits at around £68m and will only become active from the summer of 2023.

As noted by The Athletic, a lot of the delay on Abraham's final decision came from the striker's preference to remain in Italy and join Arsenal, who had made it clear that they were interested in signing the youngster but were reluctant to meet Chelsea's demands.

That asking price, which began at £40m, also scared off both Aston Villa and West Ham, leaving Roma as the only real offer on Abraham's table.

With Michy Batshuayi close to joining Besiktas and Ike Ugbo on the cusp of a move to Genk, Chelsea are on track to bring in over £100m in sales this summer - more than they spent on Lukaku - and could easily see that number rise if fringe players like Ross Barkley, Davide Zappacosta and Danny Drinkwater head out as expected as well.

In terms of incomings, Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde is a priority target of the club, but the emergence of young Trevoh Chalobah has raised doubts over whether to push ahead with the move.

Central midfield is also an area in which Chelsea could spend, with Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni high on Tuchel's wish list.
