Star of the show for the Blues in the rout of Watford in the FA cup yesterday was two-goal Daniel Sturridge.
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti was understandably happy with the striker’s performance.
“It’s important we have Sturridge in good condition,” said the Italian.
“Especially as we lose four Africans this month.
Didier Drogba, Mikel, Salomon Kalou and Michael Essien will miss January with Chelsea to take part in the African Cup of Nations in Angola.
“He deserved his goals Sturridge will have gained great confidence today - he has great qualities.
Daniel can play up front with pour without Nicolas Anelka who is available for next Saturday’s match h against Hull City.”
Ancelotti said of the game: “It was important to start new year well. We took the game to them in the right way going three nil up with 20 m inutes. But we played well for all 90 minutes.
“My players know how important the FA Cup is.
“I was surprised Manchester United lost. But we remained focussed.”
Speaking of media reports by Florent Malouda that he was unhappy at Chelsea, Ancelotti commented;” I spoke with Malouda before the Birmingham game and explained his position. He explained his opposition. After that it was finished.
“It’s normal that players want to play in important games, but for me all games are important.
When I was a player I was frustrated . But it was a good reaction from him."
