Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed a new injury setback, ruling midfielder Dario Essugo out of Wednesday night's match against Leeds United and the next two fixtures.
Essugo, who was expected to cover the suspended Moisés Caicedo, suffered a knock upon his return to training.
Maresca stated, "We need to check him, as it happened yesterday," confirming that Andrey Santos is now the most likely candidate to provide cover in the centre of midfield in Caicedo's absence.
However, Cole Palmer is set to return to action at Elland Road. His return is a crucial boost for Chelsea, who are looking to secure a victory that would keep them firmly in the title race.
