Joe Cole considers staying at Lille

Last updated : 17 November 2011 By Daily Mail

The former England international was one of the shock switches of the suummer when he ended his Anfield hell with a short hop against the Channel to Ligue 1.

And since making the move Cole has impressed domestically and in Europe, making 14 appearances and scoring three goals, as he tries to rediscover his form of old.

Up for it: Joe Cole would consider extending his stay at Lille in Ligue 1

But the 30-year-old admits he has found some aspects of life in France harder to deal with than others.

Hesaid: 'The big difference in France is that every day you shake your team-mates' hand or some team-mates do the double kiss, in England we don't do this!

England expects: Joe Cole is keen to add to his 56 international caps

'It's a very friendly atmosphere. The food is fantastic. Very nice. I'm not surprised. I have to be careful not to eat too much. The driving is a bit strange, too.'

He also revealed he is considering extending his stay when his current loan deal expires at the end of the season.

Cole, who has operated in central midfield at times, a hark back to his early career, said: 'I'm very happy because I hadn't played for a long, long time and sometimes it's difficult to find your fitness but I'm happy with my form.

'But I'm looking to improve as well, I'm still not back to my best level in my career when I was at Chelsea. But I'm very happy with the start and I think as a team we can improve.

'I played [in central midfield] against Evian and part of the Milan (Inter Milan in the Champions League) game. I enjoyed it. I like to defend as well as attack and being involved as much as I can. In that position you touch the ball the most and I think I can help the team in that position.

? 'The main focus to me is on the football. If my family is happy (which wife Carly and daughter Ruby are)and I'm happy we'll talk in May. And Lille has to be happy. We'll see in May.'

His upturn in fortunes has led many to believe Cole could make a late charge on Fabio Capello's England squad for the European Championships next summer, adding to the 56 caps he already has at international level.

'I have no contact (with Capello) but that's normal, every manager is different and Fabio doesn't talk much to his players,' he said.

'That's not a problem. I just try to play well. If the call comes I will be very happy. I love playing for my country. If it doesn't, my main focus is to win trophies for Lille.'
