Jimmy To Stay?

Hasselbaink, who has been constantly linked with a move to the Nou Camp since the summer months, is now set to remain Blue following statements from both Barcelona and Stamford Bridge.

Under pressure Barca manager Louis van Gaal told a news conference after the club's latest Primera Liga defeat that he would not be making any new signings during the January transfer window.

"We're in a delicate situation”, he said.

"I've spoken to the players, the president, the technical staff and the medical staff and we've pledged to do everything possible to take the team forward.

"We've also decided that Football Club Barcelona will not sign any new players because we have confidence in the current squad."

It seems that such a statement is probably signalling the end of the Dutchman’s reign since Hasselbaink had been Van Gaal’s primary target for a number of months.

Such a dramatic change in position may possibly point to management “alterations” in the very near future, and it is extremely unlikely that the Spanish club would want to introduce new players at such a “delicate” time.

Following reports last week that Chelsea officials had actually met with Barcelona representatives in the hope of thrashing out the £7m deal for the young Jimmy, Chelsea chief executive Trevor Birch insists (whilst not actually denying that any talks took place), he insists, that he never travelled to Spain – and has no intention of doing so.

He told the Evening Standard: "I neither went to Barcelona nor have I any plans to go."

Such statements from both home and abroad all bode well for Jimmy’s Chelsea future. To sell a player of Jimmy’s quality would surely only point to a club either in real dire straits financially, or one that seriously lacked ambition.

The time has come for Jimmy to settle.
