Hodgson happy with England win

England manager Roy Hodgson had mixed feelings about their 3-2 victory over Scotland at Wembley tonight.
"We made it difficult for ourselves against run of play," he said.
"But all credit to Scotland to restrict us space, they were sharp on the counter attack.
But it was very satisfying to win game coming from behind twice."
Of goal-scoring hero Ricky Lambert who at 31, came on as a substitute on 67 minutes and notched the winner three minutes late, Hodgson was full of praise for the Sothampton hit man.
"Ricky Lambert had a fairy tale game, he wasvery happy to be part of squad and could even have had three goals in the end - hewas a breath of fresh air."
But the England boss had a word of caution for Lambert as England prepare for vital World Cup qualifiers.
"There might be more competition for him next time," he suggested.
"Daniel Sturridge could be back, Andy Carroll is not far from fitness, we will have to wait and see in the next three weeks.
"He won't be struck off my list lightly. He will have to play well for Southampton - putting ball in back of the net and playing well for his team."
On the negative side of things, Hodgson said: "We did not play at our best defensively which I would like to see like to see disappear.
"But we took risks going forward to create opportunities.
"That is a positive. But also to win coming from behind."
Chelsea target Wayne Rooney started the game and Hodgson was impressed with the Manchester United striker.
"It was a good performance, from Wayne," he said.
"This was Rooney's first competitive game game of the year. You would not expect this normally, not ideal. But David Moyes and United were fantastic.
"He wanted to play and I played him. He looked so fit and worked hard.
"He wanted to stay on for more - so I gave him an extra15 minutes."
Hodgson was not unduly worried about the feisty nature of the game
"The pitch was watered and it rained so the pitch was fast and slippery," he suggested.
"There was nothing malicious from either side. Both played in right but competitive spirit. 80,000 crowd deserved it."

Another  notable success for England was Arsenal's Jack Wilshere.
" We thought early that he and Cleverley were too close to Gerrard, too narrow," said Hodgson.
"We wanted him left central, to get more combinations when switching play.
"Towards end of the first half he was interpreting that well.
"But we were cautious within him as Arsenal has five games until next England game.
Wilshere is very important. He can unlock doors and has fantastic change of pace, plus a great understanding of the game."
Overall the England boss was happy.
"But it's a positive week for me also at under 21 level - they were so confident. I hope in three weeks time the bulk of the side will be fit.
