Gonzalo Higuain 'gets goosebumps' when reflecting on career

Gonzalo Higuain has revealed he 'gets goosebumps' when he thinks about the world class players he's played with and the success he's enjoyed throughout his playing career.

The Argentine striker moved to Europe aged 19 when he joined Real Madrid from River Plate, scoring 121 goals in 264 games for Los Blancos. A move to Napoli followed, where he equalled the Serie A record for most goals in a season, before securing a €90m transfer to Juventus.

After unsuccessful loan spells with Milan and Chelsea, Higuain returned to Juve before heading to the USA to sign for Inter Miami.

The 34-year-old spoke to media ahead of a charity match in the Floridian city headlined by Roberto Carlos and Ronaldinho, and reflected on a career spent rubbing shoulders with some of the sport's greatest ever players.

"I was 19 when I met Roberto Carlos and he welcomed me with love and humility. He, Ronaldo, [David] Beckham, Raul, [Ruud] van Nistelrooy, [Iker] Casillas, [Ivan] Helguera, [Fabio] Cannavaro, all of them treated us youngsters with affection and incredible modesty and I could go on naming names," Higuain said.

"The truth is that if I look back and think about all the players I’ve been able to play with, I get goosebumps.

"And I’m still not tired of playing. Ronaldinho I faced, with Roberto Carlos I played with, with [Paulo] Dybala I played with, even with [Weston] McKennie I was a teammate, sharing even just a few days at Juventus."

Higuain has had a slow start to the 2022 MLS season, scoring just twice in ten games so far for Inter Miami.
