Frank Lampard's Chelsea job in jeopardy following Manchester City defeat

Frank Lampard's position as Chelsea manager is said to be in jeopardy, following their disappointing 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday evening.

City scored three first-half goals at Stamford Bridge to put the game beyond their opponents with Callum Hudson-Odoi grabbing a consolation in the dying seconds. The defeat was Chelsea's fourth in six Premier League games and leaves them seven points adrift of leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.

Despite spending over £200m in the summer, the Blues have looked poor in recent weeks with the form of big money arrivals Kai Havertz and Timo Werner being of particular concern. According to the Athletic, this is one of several reasons for Lampard being in danger of the sack.

There are also mounting tensions between the manager and several Chelsea players who have been starved of first team football so far this season.

The most notable bone of contention is the Blues' recent poor form. Defeat against City means Chelsea have accumulated fewer points after 17 Premier League matches this season than they did last campaign. Unsurprisingly, the board view this as unacceptable, considering their hefty summer spend.

However, as 90min reported earlier this week, there is a good chance of the Blues sticking with Lampard until the end of the term at least. He only has 18 months left to run on his current deal and the club always planned to have discussions over his long term future at the end of the current season.

His chances of lasting until the summer have also been given a boost by Mauricio Pochettino's recent decision to take over at Paris-Saint Germain. The former Tottenham boss is admired by Chelsea decision makers, but he is now unavailable.

Convincing a manager to take over mid-season could prove tricky, although the man Pochettino replaced, Thomas Tuchel, is on the market.
