'Duck' flying in tonight to seal loan deal

Alexandre Pato will sign a loan deal with Chelsea until the end of the season tomorrow.

The 26-year-old striker, who Chelsea tried to buy five years ago, i in on a plane from Brazil and will head straight to Chelsea's Cobham training ground when he touches down at Heathrow airport.

The implication of the move is that Chelsea's policy of one out before one in, means Loic Remy or Radamel Falcao will move on. The likely scenario is that Remy, wanted by former club Newcastle United will head up to Geordie land once Pato complete's a £30k per week deal. He needs to pass a fitness test and obtain a work permit, but both are expected to be a relatively smooth process.

Pato has 27 Brazil caps and his current club Corinthians would prefer a permanent deal. But the Blues, mindful that any incoming manager in the summer might not want a Diego Costa/Pato strike force next season, insisted on a loan move with the first-choice option should the ex-AC Milan man prove a hit.

So will Pato be a lame duck or success?
