Clarke cautious about title

Chelsea number two Steve Clarke was straining at the leash following his side's emphatic 3-0 demolition of Portsmouth.
But the Scot, rather than shouting to the rafters: 'we are going to win the league,' decided to act more restrained.
He said: “It was another three points. There is not much I can add to that.”

However, when pressed, Clarke added: “It’s boring to say, but it’s good to be in front. All we can do is keep winning.”

When asked about the contribution of his mercurial winger Robben, Clarke was gushing with excitement: “He is an exceptional talent. He makes goals, score goals. He is so fast at running with the ball, that at times he is simply unstoppable.

“He will have games when he is quiet, but if he plays like he did today, then I’ll be very happy.

“We work very hard to stop the opposition - it starts from the front and then works backwards,” added Clarke.

“We deserve to be in front, there will be difficult games ahead - we now need 11 victories,” concluded Clarke.

Portsmouth coach Joe Jordan was full of praise for his side but more for Chelsea.

The Scot said: “Unless you get it right, you will be punished by this Chelsea side.”

He added: “Chelsea have players who can change and win a game. In Robben and Duff, they have players who are exceptional.

“We hoped they would have a quiet time and we tried to stop them, but their movement was great.

“The title is not over yet, but Chelsea have such a great base to start from.

“It’s a competitive league and Manchester United and Arsenal will do what they can to get back at them.

“Chelsea have bought expensive, but they have also bought well, the players have gelled together.

They did not nick the game today, they deserved to win,” he added.
