Chelsea want AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato

Chelsea have been tracking the Brazil international since former Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti took over in 2009 and Villas-Boas is also a keen admirer of Pato's talents.

The player is likely to cost in the region fo ?30million but Villas-Boas is hoping that a player plus cash deal may tempt owner Roman Abramovich to loosen the purse strings.

Chelsea's new boss is keen to bolster his frontline to help supplement Fernando Torres and he is willing to offer Nicolas Anelka or Salomon Kalou to Milan as part of the deal.

Pato netted 14 times in 25 appearances for Milan last term struggled with injuries and lost his place to Antonio Cassano towards the end of the campaign.

But the pacy forward is still only 21 and has netted more than a goal every other game in his four-year spell in Italy.
