Chelsea open to offers for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea are expecting to receive offers for backup goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer and are open to letting him go for the right price.

A £72m signing from Athletic Club in 2018, Kepa was initially the club's first-choice stopper but underwhelmed in his second season and was replaced by Edouard Mendy.

Mendy's excellent form has kept Kepa on the sidelines ever since, although the Spaniard has seriously impressed on his rare outings in cup competitions, forging a reputation as a penalty specialist.

Having rebuilt his reputation, Kepa is expected to attract plenty of interest once the campaign comes to a close, and The Telegraph believe that Chelsea will not stand in the goalkeeper's way if the right offer arrives.

There is an obvious acceptance that no club will come close to the £72m fee that Chelsea paid to sign Kepa in the first place, but the Blues hope that his improving form will encourage substantial offers.

There is expected to be interest in Kepa from Spain, while Maurizio Sarri has previously been tipped to try and reunite with the goalkeeper at Lazio.

Chelsea have been hugely impressed with Kepa's attitude since being dropped and believe that he has handled his benching impeccably, but with no plans to move him up in the pecking order, they are open to letting Kepa go.

With the World Cup coming at the end of 2022, Kepa is likely to want to leave Stamford Bridge in search of the playing time that could boost his case for making the Spain squad. David de Gea is excelling for Manchester United, so Kepa will need regular play time if he is to guarantee a starting spot for his country.
