Chelsea boys should retire from England duty

Last updated : 07 September 2010 By Kieran Makwana

Kieran Makwana is a Chelsea fan who thinks the club should take priorty over the national side - in particualr in the case of JT, Lamps and Ash.
Here is what he has to say.

The World Cup is now just a bitter memory and the new Premier League season is in full flow.

Some of the Chelsea players in the England squad are now nearing 30 others over 30 and this begs the question - Should they retire from international duty?
England had to do without JT and Lamps last week in Euro 2012 v Bugaria and miss out again tonight against Switzerland due to injury. England don't need them.

For a start Chelsea players are better in the blue of Chelsea then the red and white of England and even when they do play well they still get the blame.

Cole, Terry and Lampard all get a lot of abuse from England fans, Cole and Terry for their private lives and public image while Lampard for his apparent 'poor form' for England even though he 'scored' and hit the bar against Germany.

Youth is coming in all the time, Jack Wilshere, Kieron Gibbs and Michael Dawson can all fill in the gaps that would be left by these three players, leaving Lampard, Terry and Cole to concentrate on their Chelsea careers.

Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes did it. Especially considering the taunts by some England 'fans'.

Fans are having such a go at Ashley that he may end up leaving Chelsea for good - and he's the best left back in the world.

I believe that for the benefit of Chelsea, these three players should retire from England duty.

Do you agree with Kieran?
