Cesar Azpilicueta gives update on Chelsea future

Cesar Azpilicueta has issued an update on his Chelsea future, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Azpilicueta is one of three defenders that could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both have contracts which run out at the end of the current campaign, and 90min recently revealed that the Blues are concerned about losing all three.

Azpilicueta has been strongly linked with a return to Spain in recent times, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid both said to be readying offers for the defender.

The club captain has been coy about his future in the recent past and things were no different when he was quizzed about his contract situation prior to Chelsea's Club World Cup semi-final against Al-Hilal.

"I'm not going to speak about my future. We are one day before the semi-final of the tournament," he said.

"Of course, I arrived in the summer of 2012 and I didn't have kids. My kids were born in London and you know how I feel about Chelsea. But I am not going to comment on my future."

Chelsea went on to beat Al-Hilal 1-0 with Romelu Lukaku scoring the game's only goal in the first half. Azpilicueta played the full 90 minutes and he is likely to do so again in Saturday's final against Brazilian side Palmeiras.
