Andreas Christensen provides update on his Chelsea future

Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen has confessed he hopes to put pen to paper on a new deal at Stamford Bridge soon.

Christensen had fallen out of favour under former boss Frank Lampard, and with his contract expiring in 2022, he was expected to be sold this summer, but the Dane has enjoyed a fantastic resurgence under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Only drafted in as cover for Thiago Silva, Christensen has been one of Chelsea's standout performers in 2021, keeping 12 clean sheets in his 15 appearances under the new boss, so you'd expect the Blues to want to tie him down to fresh terms soon.

There had been rumours that Christensen was growing frustrated with life at the Bridge when he was out of the side, but the Dane has ended that speculation by admitting he wants to stay at Chelsea for years to come.

"I’ve shown that I’m here for the long run," he said (via the club's official website). "I’ve been here almost nine, ten years now.

"I’ve never doubted my decision [to come to Chelsea] and I’ve always been here for the long run. I accept that the club sometimes changes managers, and that can make it hard to always be in the team.

"After the loan spell [at Borussia Monchengladbach] I came back and played a good amount and since then it’s been a bit in and out, but it’s nice at the moment to play back-to-back games and my confidence is growing with each game.

"There have not been any talks [on a contract extension] yet, but like I said, I’m in this for the long run and I always have been. I feel like this is my second home. Denmark will always be my home, but Chelsea will always be my place."

This one seems like a no-brainer.

Christensen clearly wants to stay at Chelsea, and the Blues will surely want to keep him after seeing just how impressive he has been under Tuchel. The 25-year-old will have no shortage of suitors if he does hit the market, but it seems as though Christensen isn't interested in leaving.
