Ranieri's Rants - Stuttgart (h)

Last updated : 10 March 2004 By Liam Corbett
After putting us through to the quarter finals and Friday's draw, Caludio Ranieri admitted his tactics were probably wrong, as he started with a 443 which was forced back into more of a 451.

"Tonight we were too anxious to keep possession and move the ball. We are used to playing this way, but it was very difficult.

"At the end of the match we had three very good chances. But it was a difficult match, and we covered very well.

"I wanted to play 4-3-3 with Damien Duff on the left and Jesper Gronkjaer on the right. But they put us under pressure, and I had to put one more in midfield - Duff - and play normal 4-4-2."

Refering to Gronkjaer's shot against the upright and Mutu's two efforts, Claudio said, "At the end when we had three golden chances to score we should have settled the game."

Always look on the bright side Claudio! And a special Chelsea-Mad thank you to Porto !
