Player Ratings: Manchester City (h)

Last updated : 07 February 2005 By Liam Corbett
Petr Cech - Another clean sheet from the Czech stopper. Wasn't really tested all afternoon with City's one real effort, a Fowler diving header, going wide. 6

Paulo Ferreira - Had to deal with Wright-Philips when he switched wings and did so very well. Close to being the best right back in the league, if he isn't already! Better than both Lauren and Neville in mine and most others view. 7

John Terry - Could've been punished for an unlucky slip that allowed Fowler to head wide. Dealt with everything in the air and was harshly pulled up for a superb tackle on Wright-Philips in the second half. 7

William Gallas - Had a header cleared off the line and wasn't really that troubled or concerned all afternoon. 7

Wayne Bridge - Still as dreadfully one footed as ever! Didn't help enough going forward, seemed reluctant to proceed beyond the midfield. Coped well with Wright-Philips. 7

Jiri Jarosik - For a big guy he didn't win much in the air. Showed a few nice touches and passes and was willing to stick his foot in. Withdrawn in second half for Tiago. 6

Frank Lampard - Unlucky on a couple of occasions with a low free kick and last minute volley. Showed again his great range of passing and shooting ability. Let's hope he survives the stupid England friendly in midweek. 8

Claude Makelele - Got into another tussle with Danny Mills this time. Played his normal simple game and was always available and willing to sit back and let others take centre stage. 7

Mateja Kezman - Tried his hardest as usual, missing one snapped at chance in the first half following a spilled Duff effort. Looked much more commited and dangerous than Gudjohnsen, but was taken off for Joe Cole and Eidur remained on. Didn't get booked!! 7

Eidur Gudjohnsen - Caught offside a stupidly high amount of times. Couldn't finish. Made no promising runs or touches. At a club wanting to top Europe regularly, we need a striker who scores more than he does and finishes better. 5

Damien Duff - A couple of nice touches but maybe missed the presence of Robben to divert some of the attention he was getting. Marked closely most of the match and wasn't allowed his usual freedom. 6
