Player Ratings: Liverpool - Carling Cup Final at Millenium Stadium

Last updated : 28 February 2005 By Liam Corbett
Petr Cech - Should've done a lot better with Liverpool's second goal, didn't even jump and was rooted to his line and was beaten by Nunez. No chance with Riise's 80mph first minute effort! Made a couple of good saves, most noteable from Didi Hamman. 6

Paulo Ferreira - Had a great match apart from one lapse in concentration when he left Riise all alone to finish. Apart from that was faultless and comfortable going forward and backwards. Put in some good crosses too, one of which was nodded in by Steven Gerrard! 7

John Terry - Man of the match performance. Won everything in the air and this time Morientes got no change out of him. Delighted to pick up his first trophy as Chelsea captain. 9

Ricardo Carvalho - Had a great game next to Terry. Very comfortable with the ball at his feet and compliments Terry's style of defending too. 8

William Gallas - Had to keep checking back as he was obviously uncomfortable on his left foot. Put in a good solid performance and was sacrificed late on as we pushed for the equaliser. 7

Claude Makelele - A greater player than I think any fan thought when he first arrived, he keeps the midfield ticking and shows great energy. Passed the ball around well and spread play. The biggest un-sung hero. 8

Frank Lampard - Hit a couple of wayward free kick efforts but showed his great range of passing throughout when he spread play to Duff and Cole on a number of occasions. His first career trophy is a welcome one! 7

Jiri Jarosik - Not one of his better games, not expected to start and looked a bit slugish and slow. Withdrawn at half time for Eidur Gudjohnsen. 6

Damien Duff - Ran at the Liverpool defence all day and looked our most likely source to a goal, either by assist or scoring himself. Could maybe have done better when one on one with Dudek, as he had support from Drogba and Kezman. 7

Joey Cole - Staked his claim for starting ahead of Gudjohnsen and ran at Liverpool like Duff did. Put in some nice crosses and caused problems for the back line. 7

Didier Drogba - Ran the line well on his own, dragging Hyypia out of position at available oppurtunity and finished well in a tight space for his goal. Booked for his celebration of removing his shirt. Unlucky on a couple of other occasion when shooting, especially a header that hit Dudek's post. 8

SUBS:

Eidur Gudjohnsen - Changed the game when he came on, showed his versitility when he played a much deeper role. Him Kez and Drogba looked very threatening as a trio.  9

Mateja Kezman - Great poacher's goal, the sort of goal that he maybe needs to get on a run.  8

Glen Johnson - Filled in well for the brief time he was on after Ferreira switched to left back.  7
