As the first half progressed, with Claude Makelele controlling the game from deep, Chelsea bagged the simplest of goals. Frank Lampard swung in a corner, PSG keeper Letizi missed the ball completely, allowing JT to head in completely un marked.
Just as in the previous Champions League campaign, a centre back got Chelsea's European season off to a great start. Last time it was William Gallas, now it was Tex's turn!
PSG briefly threatened again before half time, but they looked toothless in attack, and things would go from bad to worse seconds before the interval.
Joe Cole played a fantastic ball to send Kezman in the clear. Unfortunately, Batman's touch was a tad heavy, allowing the goalkeeper time to block his shot. The ball fell straight to Didier Drogba though and, despite scuffing his shot, the ball comfortably ended up in the back of the net. 2-0 Chelsea, and a dream start to the campaign!
After the break, Chelsea controlled the play and rarely looked threatened, whilst running riot on the counter attack. A third goal would arrive midway through the half, courtesy of that man Drogba.
Given an incredible amount of stick by the PSG crowd due to his Marseille links, Drogba had a fantastic chance to silence the crowd, when presented with a free kick just outside the box. Geremi dummied the ball before Drogba clipped the ball over the wall and into the unguarded half of the net. 3-0, and Drogba didn't mind letting the PSG fans know as much as he wildly celebrated his goal.
Job well done in Paris, a seventh win in eight Champions League away games since last season! Now to show what we can do at home when Porto arrive at the end of September...
