Barcelona 2 (2) Chelsea 2 (3)

Oh my God, Chelsea did it.

They are in the Champions League Final.

The Blues produced the defensive performance of all time to draw 2-2 at the Nou camp to dump reigning champions Barcelona out.

It was just revenge for the night of torment in 2009 when a last-gasp equalising goal by Iniesta saw the Catalans oust the Blues in a match of soul-breaking high-drama at Stamford Bridge.

But tonight it was sweet and bitter.

Sweet as the Blues reach the final for the second time and bitter as four Chelsea players will miss their day of destiny in Munich on May 19.

Goal-scorer Ramires, Raul Merieles and Branislav Ivanovic picked up yellow cards and are suspended for the final, while skipper John Terry will also miss the match against either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid when he was given a staright red card for a foul, minutes before the break.

Goals from Ramires and a last-gasp sensational solo effort from Fernando Torres sealed a 2-2 draw against champions Barcelona in a quite astounding game which saw also Lionel Messi miss from a penalty.

But it’s the Blues who will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich on May 19, winning 3-2 on aggregate.

The Londoners had to do it the hard way – going a goal down, then seeing skipper John Terry sent off.

But Brazil midfielder Ramires gave Chelsea a lifeline deep into first-half added time.

Iniesta restored Barcelona’s lead and they then battered Chelsea’s defence.

But the Blues held firm, desperate defending and sensational goalkeeping from Petr Cech kept the Catalans at bay.

Then with seconds to go, substitute Fernando Torres ran the length of the Barcelona half to skip past Victor Valdes to slot the ball home, to level the scores on the night and to propel the Blues into their second Champions League final.

The game started well for the Blues as Ashley Cole zipped down the left in the first attack, but Victor Vales was quickest to react to the cross to smother the ball.

Lionel Messi and Sanchez cut the Blues apart on four minutes, but the striker blasted the ball into Petr Cech’s side netting.

The Blues suffered an early setback on six minutes, when centre-back Gary Cahill slipped challenging Sanchez, in his penalty area, tweaking his hamstring in the process.

John Terry however signalled to the bench to give a recovering Cahill two more minutes.

But Jose Bosingwa was eventually brought on, he slotted into right back, with Branislav Ivanovic moving across to centre-back.

Cech produced two fine saves to thwart Barcelona, first preventing Messi and then Iniesta.

But with Chelsea fielding two banks of four, Didier Drogba was all alone up front. When, on 24 minutes he found himself with the ball, he was forced to go alone. But his effort was off target.

Daniel Alves replaced Pique a minute later who appeared to be suffering from a head injury after he was clattered by his own goalkeeper  Valdes.

But with the pressure building, the Blues finally capitulated; a Xavi corner was cleared by Drogba, the ball was slipped back to Cuenca and then to Busquets, who slotted home past Cech to level the scores on aggregate.

Worse was to follow seven minutes from half-time when Terry was sent off with a straight red card by Turkish referee Cakir for lifting his right knee into Sanchez. It looked harsh; maybe a booking but Chelsea, a goal down now had both centre-backs off the pitch.

Mikel moved back into the centre back position to cover.

However with two minutes of the half to go, the home side cut the Blues apart with Messi producing a miracle pass to Iniesta who easily beat Cech to put Barcelona in the lead on aggregate.

Incredible deep into added time, Chelsea got a goal; a fine pass by Frank Lampard resulted with a brilliant dink of a chip by Ramires, which left Valdes flapping desperately.

The Brazil midfielder was booked a minute before hand which meant he would miss the final should the score remain the same.

Iniesta had the first effort seconds in to the second half but his shot was cleared for a corner.

But Cesc Fabregas, on 48 minutes, won a penalty after Drogba stretched out a leg and the former Arsenal man fell over The Ivory Coast striker's legs.

Messi, who had never previously scored against Chelsea kept up is record and smashed the spot kick off the crossbar with Cech well beaten.

Ivanovic was then booked which meant he, like red-carded Terry and Ramires would miss the final.

Drogba, now playing at right back, raced down the line and tried an audacious shot from the halfway line on 52 minutes which Valdes had no problem dealing with.

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo replaced ineffectual Juan Mata two minutes later with speed merchant Salomon Kalou.

Petr Cech was then yellow carded by referee Cakir for time-wasting as the Blues’ rearguard action went into overdrive.

Cech was quickly in the action again parrying Cuenca’s shot away for a corner.

With 18 minutes gone in the second half, Chelsea forced  their way forward creating a corner.

Lampard’s cross was met by Ivanovic, but his free header just went agonisingly wide.

Chelsea should have had a penalty 20 minutes from time when Busquets slid on the pitch from Kalou’s shot and handled the ball. But the referee failed to spot the offence and the home side breathed a sigh of relief.

World footballer of the year Messi ended up with a yellow card closely followed by Lampard as the tensions increased.

With Chelsea posting six men across the penalty area, Tello and Keita entered the fray for Barcelona in a desperate attempt to grab the third and decisive goal.

Busquets missed a fine chance with 13 minutes remaining, panicking as he hauled his effort over Cech’s crossbar from close range.

Drogba’s titanic night ended with 10 minutes remaining with Fernando Torres coming on to hopefully provide much-needed pace up front.

Barcelona thought they had the third goal, but when Messi provided a through-ball, Alves beat the offside and slotted home.

But he was adjudged to be offside.

With seven minutes to go, as the home side cranked up the pressure even more, Chelsea got another stroke of luck when Messi’s shot smacked off Cech’s upright.

Raul Meireles then found himself in the book on the 88th minute and he too would miss the final.

Deep into injury time and after a penalty was turned down, the ball fell free to Fernando Torres who arrowed up the pitch, he ran  70 yards, rounded Valdes and placed the ball into the empty net to put Chelsea into the final of the Champions League.

A sensational night.
