Player Ratings: West Brom (a)

Last updated : 31 October 2004 By Rich Godden
Petr Cech- Made some good saves but, on too many occasions, opted to punch rather than catch. On one such occasion, Zoltan Gera fired in the rebound! First mistake as a Blue. 7

Paulo Ferriera- The more I see this guy play, the better he looks. As much as I hate Gary Neville, you can't help but admire his consistency and in Paulo Ferreira I feel we have the Portugese equivalent! 8

John Terry- Immense as ever, and a great setup for Gallas' goal. 8

William Gallas- Started the game at centre back and scored the opening goal on the stroke of half time. Moved out to left back when Carvalho came on in the second period and looked very assured in his least favoured position along the back four. 8

Wayne Bridge- Since injuring his calf, Bridgey has not looked the same player. The Mr Consistency of last season could find himself out in the cold if he keeps it up. Subbed at the interval. 6

Claude Makelele- Pivotal to the shape of the team as always, Claude helped control the team well. Unfortunately, as we have become more attacking of late, he is left exposed more often. But he still goes about his job with minimum fuss. 8

Frank Lampard- After missing a penalty against West Ham in mid week, Frank was back to his best today. Great corner allowed JT to set up Gallas for the first, then setup Duffer for the third and, finally, found time to score the fourth! All action display from Lamps, but we'd expect nothing less! 9

Alexey Smertin- Quickly establishing himself as a crucial component in this Chelsea side. Gets about the pitch superbly, always on the heels of opponents and good on the ball too! Another decent display from the Russian. 7

Joe Cole- Ineffective performance after his man of the match display against West Ham, and found himself taken off at half time. 6

Damien Duff- Duffer is slowly but surely getting back to last season's form. He was in fine form against the Baggies. Wonderful cross allowed Gudjohnsen to score the second and then cooly finished himself for the third. 8

Eidur Gudjohnsen- Seemed isolated in the first half, but still worked hard in the face of adversity. Then in the second half he was surrounded by Chelsea players at all times and, as a result, we scored three goals! 8

Subs

Ricardo Carvalho- On for Bridge at half time. Doesn't quite look at home in the Premiership just yet, but the fantastic players around him are doing superbly to help him settle and he looks a potential world beater. 7

Arjen Robben- Replaced Cole at the break and was absolutely fantastic. Teased the West Brom defence and, quite frankly, scared the life out of them! Great ball allowed Lamps to score the fourth. 8

Tiago- Not on long enough to do anything meaningful. N/A
