Player Ratings: Blackburn (h)

Last updated : 23 October 2004 By Rich Godden
Petr Cech- Nothing to do! Easiest game he'll have for a long time. 7

Glen Johnson- Sloppy in possesion at times, otherwise a fantastic showing. Got forward superbly, adding another dimension to the attacks. Also managed to send in some great crosses and will take great confidence from this performance. 8

John Terry- Didn't give Blackburn a sniff at goal, and one particular block deserves special mention. He threw himself at the ball with absolutely no fear. Legend! 8

Ricardo Carvalho- Good display for the most part but got complacent late on, something which Mourinho will be angry at. 7

Wayne Bridge- Much better showing from Bridgey after his mid week blip. Not yet his usual self in the attacking third but defensively he was good. 7

Scott Parker- First start of the season and, on this evidence, a deserved start. Played the Makelele role superbly but, unlike Maka, Scott can offer something going forward. As a result, we were able to camp ourselves in the Blackburn half, making for an entertaining game! So thanks Scotty! 8

Alexey Smertin- Excellent in the first half, getting at Blackburn like a terrier! But gradually faded and it came as no suprise when he was subbed midway through the second half. 7

Frank Lampard- What a fantastic pass for Eidur's second goal! And what a performance by the player voted player of the year by Chelsea's official supporters club. Unlucky not to score himself too after going close with several efforts. 8

Joe Cole- Looked nervy early on but once he settled down it was a fine performance by the little wizard. Great ball to Eidur for his first goal, almost Maradona-esque! 8

Damien Duff- Looked threatening without ever really doing a lot at times, although he did manage some decent crosses. Scored a fantastic goal late on but looked jaded for much of the second half. 8

Eidur Gudjohnsen- For the first half an hour, Eidur was getting some major stick from the crowd. But once he scored that first goal, it was like a huge weight off his shoulders. Before you knew it, he had two goals! And then five minutes after the interval, he probably would've scored again but for an illegal intervention by a Blackburn defender. So up stepped Eidur for the penalty and his first ever professional hat trick! Well done Eidur! 9

Subs

Arjen Robben- Came on for Joe Cole to a standing ovation. Didn't touch the ball for about ten minutes... but when he got into the game, what a player he was! Mark my words, this guy is going to be incredible. Could've scored two and set up two others by full time! 8

Tiago- On for Smertin, didn't actually do a lot apart from let out a huge squeal when hacked down by a Rovers forward! N/A

Mateja Kezman- Replaced the hero Gudjohnsen but didn't have the same effect! Arjen Robben set him up just 6 yards from goal but he somehow managed to hit the bar! Will he ever score? N/A
