Willian Reveals Plan to End Season With Chelsea Amid Contract Uncertainty

Chelsea winger Willian has insisted he would have no problem finishing the season with the Blues if the Premier League ran into July.

The Brazilian is one of 68 Premier League players who will be out of contract on June 30, which normally wouldn't be worth writing home about. However, given football's current suspension, it has been suggested the season might have to run into the summer to be completed.

What will happen to those 68 players is currently unknown. It is thought that they will be given the option to stay or walk away, and Willian admitted to Esporte Interativo he will happily stay at Stamford Bridge as long as he is needed.

"My contract really ends, I think in July," he began. “And if I had to play on those dates, in these months, I think it would be no problem for me to end the league in a way which would be loyal to the club, as they always were with me. Regardless of a signed paper.

“But it’s clear that this is not a certainty, we don’t know what can happen. But without a doubt, as always, I will always be ready to give the best to my club regardless of my contract situation.”

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has regularly spoken of his desire to see Willian extend his contract, and the Brazilian has made no secret of his wish to remain with the club for the foreseeable future.

However, despite that loyalty and desire to stay, Willian's demands have proven problematic in contract talks.

Chelsea usually don't offer anything more than one-year deals to players over 30 years old, but because of their loyalty to Willian, they have bumped their offer up to two years. Unfortunately, he wants three.

The Blues quickly decided that they didn't want to make that sort of commitment and pulled out of negotiations, and Willian confessed that talks have not restarted.

"No, nothing new, no news," he revealed. “Especially after what’s happening, everything stopped. But so far no news about anything.”
