Why Chelsea Should Splash the Cash on Eintracht Frankfurt Hotshot Luka Jovic

Chelsea are rumoured to be readying a £39m bid for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Luka Jovic. The Serbian striker has been on fire in the Bundesliga this season and many top clubs around Europe are ready to fight for his signature.

While Chelsea have missed out on many high-profile strikers in recent memory, it would be smart for the club to splash once more on the promising Serbian 21-year-old.

Jovic currently leads the Bundesliga with 14 goals scored, a remarkable statistic that puts him ahead of established names such as Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus. Playing as a classic number nine, he thrives within the penalty area and constantly shows off his excellent first touch and finishing. Jovic ranks second in the Bundesliga with 4.82 scoring attempts per 90 minutes and fifth for touches in the opposition area with 7.39.

Chelsea have been without a striker that can successfully make himself a presence in the box since Diego Costa's departure in 2018. The Serbian could come in and bring his tenacity and grit to a Blues side that lacks any serious enforcer. Jovic would look to mirror the past success of strikers moving from the Bundesliga to the Premier League such as Dimitar Berbatov, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Son Heung-min.

With Oliver Giroud's contract and Gonzalo Higuain's loan set to end at the end of this season, Chelsea will need to move quickly if they want to sign Jovic. It has been speculated that Barcelona are looking at Jovic as a possible long-term replacement for Luis Suarez, but there is still optimism around the Blues' camp that they can win the race for the young goalscorer.

The price tag for Jovic is much lower than other established strikers around the world and he has proven his ability in the top flight of German football. Chelsea need to spend the money on a striker once again and count on Jovic to break the unfortunate trend of recent number nine mishaps.
