What will happen to Chelsea interim boss Rafael Benitez

Rafa Benitez will again be on the move if and when Jose Mourinho arrives back in London to take the reins of Chelsea. It was covered widely in the press that Benitez was only a short term fix for one of Roman Abramovich?s now famous, knee jerk reactions after firing Roberto di Matteo in November.

Benitez was brought in to stop the bleeding and get something out of what was left of Chelsea?s year. Chelsea is still in a fight with Arsenal and Tottenham for one of the Champions League spots and today face Basel in the second leg of the Europa League semi-finals. Chelsea bring a 2-1 lead home to Stamford Bridge and if they are able to finish off the Swiss champions, they will book a place in the Finals on May 15th in Amsterdam.

So what happens to Benitez after this season is over? Could it possibly be that Benitez moves to the soon to be vacant spot left by Mourinho? Why not? Benitez was born in Madrid, played in Madrid and coached at different levels of the Real Madrid B and U-19?s. Would this not be an easy decision? Real Madrid and their fans have had enough of Mourinho?s mood swings, disagreements and benching of popular players. Why not bring back a home grown player, coach and manager to fill the void?

There are several other Manager opportunities throughout Europe and the world in which Benitez would be well suited. As with Jose returning home to Chelsea, maybe it is time for Rafa to return home to Real Madrid.
