Update on Christian Pulisic's Fitness After Suffering Hamstring Injury

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic could be out of action for up to five weeks due to a hamstring problem he sustained during his side's FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

Pulisic opened the scoring for the Blues in the final, finishing off a delightful move involving Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud. However, the 21-year-old was forced off just four minutes into the second half with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

After the game, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard confirmed that both Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta - who also picked up a hamstring injury - will not feature against Bayern Munich in the second leg of their last 16 Champions League tie on Saturday.

TalkSPORT have now reported that Pulisic could be out of action for four or five weeks, making him a doubt for his side's first Premier League game of the 2020/21 season. The new campaign is due to get underway on 12 September, but should Pulisic remain absent for five weeks, he will only return to training just a matter of days before the west London side's opening fixture.

The Blues already face an uphill task against Bayern on Saturday, but the challenge will be even tougher now for Lampard considering the number of injuries within his squad. Currently 3-0 down from the first leg, the chance of the Premier League outfit overturning the deficit is very unlikely.

It is a cruel end to the season for Pulisic, who has grown in confidence and developed into a vital player in attack for Lampard. In fact, since the resumption of play, Pulisic managed four goals and four assists in nine league games.

The United States international will now look to try and ensure he is fit and ready for his side's opening game of the new season, but the club will manage his injury sensibly to avoid the risk of aggravating it and ruling him out for even longer.
