The time for transfer speculation is upon us.

Depending on which media outlet you favour, Chelsea are on the verge of a £16m summer bid for Barcelona star Xavi - if they do not sign Liverpool's Steven Gerrard.

They are also interest signing Argentina international Javier Mascherano for around £8m.

But one player not expected to return to the Bridge is former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly who has postponed plans for retirement and may play on for another season.

What is even more significant and one that has more than a ring of truth to it is that Chelsea are considering a plan to use Wembley as their temporary home while Stamford Bridge is being rebuilt.

This has being a long-standing objective of Roman Abramovich and Peter Kenyon has consistently refused to rule out such a project.

Meanwhile, a small matter of trying to win the Premiership, tomorrow at the Reebok Stadium against Bolton.

C'mon the Blues
