Todd Boehly's transfer budget for Thomas Tuchel revealed

Incoming owner Todd Boehly is prepared to back Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel with a cool £200m transfer war chest this summer as his takeover inches closer to completion.

The sale from Roman Abramovich has been approved by both the Premier League and the UK government, meaning it is just a matter of time before Boehly's takeover is formally completed and Chelsea can get to work planning their summer transfers.

Once he is finally given the keys to the car, Boehly is ready to spend big in an attempt to close the gap to Manchester City and Liverpool, with The Telegraph reporting that £200m will be sent Tuchel's way for squad reinforcements.

The German hopes to see Chelsea strengthen in a number of positions this summer, with centre-back one of the most troublesome areas.

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are leaving and Cesar Azpilicueta could follow them out the door, meaning at least one new signing is expected. Sevilla's Jules Kounde is right at the top of the list, while RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol is under consideration.

The Blues also plan to give Levi Colwill a fair chance to prove himself in pre-season after the academy graduate enjoyed a stunning breakout season on loan in the Championship with Huddersfield Town.

Tuchel also wants midfield reinforcements but looks set to be frustrated in his pursuit of Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni, who has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid this summer.

West Ham's Declan Rice is another top target, but the England international will command at least half of the £200m budget and the Hammers are looking to take him off the market with a new contract that includes a release clause.

Finally, Chelsea also hope to improve in attack and are keen to save some money with the signing of Ousmane Dembele, who continues to delay signing a contract extension at Barcelona and could leave on a free transfer.

Should Chelsea need to top up their budget, then money could be raised by offloading fringe players. Marcos Alonso hopes to leave to join Barcelona, while a number of midfielders and forwards are set for talks with the new owners in the coming weeks to decide their futures.
