Tiago Olympic Boost

Signed for £8million last month from Benfica, it was thought that Tiago would miss the start of the Premiership season after the Portugese called him up to play in the Olympics.

But now, he has been told he is not required due to a recurring pelvic injury.

Portugal team doctor Joao Resende said: "There was a worsening of an old injury which Tiago suffered.

"In order to recover he would need more preparation time, which we do not have. Given this situation, we decided to spare him."

However, despite not travelling for the Olympics, Tiago will not be allowed to play for Chelsea until the conclusion of the tournament, due to FIFA rules.
