Thomas Tuchel: Conor Gallagher can be 'big asset' for Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel believes Conor Gallagher can be a 'big asset' for Chelsea this season, following his highly successful loan spell at Crystal Palace.

Gallagher was in fine form for the Eagles last campaign, playing well enough to win the club's player of the season award and also break into the senior England set-up.

Palace had been eager to extend his stay at Selhurst Park, but the midfielder has instead returned to Stamford Bridge.

Gallagher recently revealed his desire to break into the first team at Chelsea and speaking after his side's 2-1 victory over Club America on Sunday - in which Gallagher played and impressed - Tuchel tipped Gallagher to have a big season.

"With Conor, the same as a midfield player. Conor trains at a really high level, and you can clearly see it was the right decision to let him go on loan," he said.

"He made a huge step in his development at Crystal Palace and became an England player. We can see this clearly in training. It was a very good start and a good match for him.

"Now, for him, it's important he gets used to our principles of the game, to understand when to move and when not to move, and his work rate is outstanding, and he has such a big heart. He can be a big asset for us."

Gallagher will be looking to continue to impress his manager during his side's upcoming pre-season fixtures against Charlotte FC, Arsenal and Udinese, before Chelsea's season begins with a trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton.
