Thomas Tuchel admits he's 'worried' about Chelsea's recent form

Thomas Tuchel has lamented the number of 'mistakes' Chelsea have made in games recently, stating they have affected his team's 'self confidence'.

Chelsea have endured a topsy-turvy 2022, putting in a season-best performance against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu and reaching the FA Cup final but also falling to shock defeats to the likes of Brentford and Arsenal.

A lot of these poor performances have tended to hinge on individual errors, with Edouard Mendy, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta being three recent culprits.

Speaking ahead of the Blues' clash with high-flying West Ham United, Tuchel has admitted he is concerned by these errors: "I'm worried about the number of mistakes.

"In the year 2022, we already had eight big mistakes that led to goals. This is very untypical, very unusual.

"'It costs us a lot. Not only a goal, it costs you self-confidence and belief in what you are doing."

Tuchel was keen to admit he may have to shoulder the blame for some of these errors, admitting that it is his job to keep the players on 'alert' and tuned in to every game they play.

He added: "Maybe it comes back to me because I should push them and make them alert. It's human to be tired, human to be more alert in a knockout game than normal matches.

"Sometimes it's also good, the foundation to play 60 games. At Mainz with one game a week, every game was like a cup final and the players were drained until Tuesday.

"It's OK to feel less tension in front of a normal home match in the Premier League than if you go to the Bernabeu. It is maybe less tension, excitement and pressure. But it cannot lead to being less alert or having less investment. This can never happen."
