Thiago Alcantara replaced by Naby Keita in Liverpool's Carabao Cup final starting XI

Thiago Alcantara suffered an injury during Liverpool's warm-up for their Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday and has been replaced by Naby Keita.

The former Bayern Munich star had been named in their starting XI before the game kicked off, but suffered a knock with Keita taking his place. Youngster Harvey Elliott is now on the bench to make up the numbers.

Thiago took the blow badly with the Spaniard being pictured in tears on the bench as each team lined up before kick off.

He has struggled for fitness so far this campaign, making only 15 Premier League appearances, and missed almost two months of action at the end of 2021.

Thiago had just started to assert himself in Liverpool's starting XI, playing particularly well in wins over Leicester, Inter and Leeds, but now will face a wait to find out the severity of the injury.

The other headlines from Liverpool's team include a return for Diogo Jota to the bench, though Roberto Firmino could not regain his fitness in time for Sunday's clash.

Luis Diaz starts in attack alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, while regular Carabao Cup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher got the nod ahead of regular number one Alisson between the sticks.

For Chelsea, Reece James is back on the bench, while Edouard Mendy got the nod to start instead of Kepa Arrizabalaga. Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic are behind Kai Havertz in attack, with Romelu Lukaku on the bench.
