The Players Close to Premier League 100 Goals

Only 28 players in the 28-year history of the Premier League have scored 100 goals in the competition, making the century milestone an impressive feat of lasting quality.

Here’s a look at six players who have scored at least 75 Premier League goals and might be in with a chance of joining that club in the future.

Daniel Sturridge - 76 goals

Sturridge is serving a worldwide ban that ends in July

Daniel Sturridge is currently serving a worldwide ban from all football until next month after being found guilty of betting breaches, but the former Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City front-man is still only 30 and could yet return to the Premier League.

At the time of his ban, Sturridge was contracted to Trabzonspor in Turkey. A middling or lower club could take a chance on him because, well, he has scored goals in the past.

Raheem Sterling - 78 goals

Sterling has become prolific since 2017

Raheem Sterling has really found his groove as a goalscoring wide forward in the last three years, undergoing a necessary transformation from inconsistent talent to lethal poacher.

Sterling had never managed double figures in a Premier League season prior to 2017/18, but now it’s become a minimum standard. The only thing that will stop him getting to 100 in the next couple of seasons if is City are banned from Europe and he moves abroad.

Sadio Mane - 80 goals

Mane always gets double figures in the Premier League

Whether playing for Southampton or Liverpool, Sadio Mane has never failed to register double figures in a given Premier League since arriving in England in 2014.

The Senegalese icon’s best tally to date is 22, which earned him a share of the 2018/19 Golden Boot. As things stand, he is on course to hit the 100-goal Premier League milestone at some point in the 2020/21 season.

Olivier Giroud - 81 goals

Giroud is running out of time to reach 100

Olivier Giroud has only scored 12 Premier League goals since the start of the 2017/18 season, largely due to a lack of opportunities during that time.

The Frenchman will be staying at Chelsea for another year, with competition for places at Stamford Bridge set to ramp up again when Timo Werner arrives, and will soon be 34. His chances of reaching 100 in the Premier League look to be diminishing unless he moves on.

Eden Hazard - 85 goals

Hazard could return to the Premier League in the future

Eden Hazard is not currently active in the Premier League but the door isn’t closed for the Belgian, who by his own admission has had a ‘bad’ first season at Real Madrid, to return.

Hazard left Chelsea on 85 Premier League goals, an impressive tally considering he is not a striker, and often netted between 14 and 16 times in the league each season.

Jamie Vardy - 99 goals

Vardy is one goal away from a Premier League century

Jamie Vardy is leading the 2019/20 Premier League Golden Boot race, gunning for his first top scorer award in the top flight, and will be the 29th player to score a century of goals.

Vardy’s story has been well told over the years, although it doesn’t make it any less remarkable. He was 25 before he even played in the Football League for the first time and had never played top flight football before he was 27. To be on the brink of 100 goals is a stunning achievement.
